چکیده

We define a class of rate-based service disciplines called Lower-Bounded Rate (LBR) that provides upper bounds on end-to-end delay, end-to-end delay probability distribution, per-server buffer space requirements, and the probability distribution of per-server buffer space. This class includes VirtualClock, PGPS, and Leave-in-Time. We prove these upper bounds, and we also prove that for an important subset of the LBR class, in the case of a single server, the proved upper bound on delay is the least upper bound. We show that a session does not need to specify its traffic behavior to a network composed of LBR servers, since LBR service disciplines allow calculation of the proved service guarantees as a function of solely a session’s own dynamic traffic behavior. We also show that for a session conforming to a leaky bucket filter, the session’s traffic that exits its network connection is also leaky bucket constrained.

Rate-Controlled Service Disciplines

We propose a class of non-work-conserving service disciplines, called the Rate-Controlled Service Disciplines. When coupled with suitable admission control algorithms, Rate-Controlled Service Disciplines can provide end-to-end deterministic and statistical performance guarantees on a per-connection basis in an arbitrary topology packet-switching network. The key feature of a rate-controlled ser...

Service Disciplines for Guaranteed Performance Service in Packet-Switching Networks

While today’s computer networks support only best-effort service, future packet-switching integrated-services networks will have to support real-time communication services that allow clients to transport information with performance guarantees expressed in terms of delay, delay jitter, throughput, and loss rate. An important issue in providing guaranteed performance service is the choice of th...

Exploring a New Model of End-of-Life Care for Older People That Operates in the Space Between the Life World and the Healthcare System: A Qualitative Case Study

Background Innovative service models to facilitate end-of-life care for older people may be required to enable and bolster networks of care. The aim of this study was to understand how and why a new charitably funded service model of end-of-life care impacts upon the lives of older people.   <span class="fon...
